Zeroed in Age of Origins? The Recovery Playbook That Actually Works
What to do after your city gets zeroed: the first hour checklist, what you didn't actually lose, rebuild order, and how to stop it happening twice.
Part of the Combat series:
- PvP Basics: The doctrine that prevents a second one.
- Hide Troops Guide: The habit that makes you not worth attacking.
Quick Answer
- Shield immediately. The first thing that matters after being zeroed is not being hit again while your Hospital is full and your army is gone.
- You lost less than it feels like. Buildings, research, officers, and equipment are all intact — those are your account's real power.
- Heal before you rebuild. Wounded troops in the Hospital are cheap to restore; new troops are expensive.
- Rebuild in order: heal → shield → spend resources down → retrain modest → fix the mistake that got you hit.
- Being zeroed once is tuition. Being zeroed twice in a week is a habit problem, and this guide is about breaking it.
First, the Part Nobody Says
Getting zeroed feels catastrophic and mostly isn't. Take a breath and inventory what actually left:
Gone: troops that died (wounded beyond Hospital capacity), and whatever resources sat above your protected cap.
Untouched: every building level, your entire research tree, all officer progress, all equipment, your VIP level, your Titans and warplanes. In other words: all of your permanent power survived. The power guide's central distinction — losable troops versus permanent multipliers — is exactly why veterans shrug off a zeroing that devastates a newer player. Your army was the cheapest thing you owned to replace.
That's genuinely the situation. Now fix it in order.
A Note for Brand-New Players
If this happened early: every new city gets an automatic Newbie Shield that lasts until your city reaches level 9 or 72 hours pass, whichever comes first — and any attack or scout you make voids it instantly. A surprising number of "I got zeroed on day two" stories start with a new player poking a neighbour and cancelling their own protection. Use that window to build, join an alliance, and learn the systems.
The First Hour
1. Shield. Not after you've read the report, not after you've complained in chat — now. An unshielded, freshly-zeroed city is the most attractive target on the map: your Hospital is full, so the next hit converts wounded into permanent deaths, and everyone who scouted you knows it. This is the single highest-value action available to you.
2. Heal everything. Wounded troops are your cheapest reinforcement, and they're sitting there. Post for alliance healing help immediately — the help has a daily cap, so use it early. If you have Doc Gray's Emergency Medicine breakthrough, this is precisely the moment it exists for.
3. Spend your resources down. Whatever survived above your protected cap is still loot. Dump it into a build, a research project, or training — anything that converts lootable resources into permanent progress. Crates in your bag are safe unopened, per the resource guide.
4. Tell your alliance. Not to complain — to find out whether this was a personal grudge, a kill event sweep, or an incoming war. The answer changes what you do next, and your officers may already know.
The Rebuild
Resist the instinct to immediately mass-train troops to "get your power back." That instinct is what gets people zeroed twice — a fresh unshielded army is a fresh donation.
The order that actually rebuilds:
- Keep the queues running on permanent power. Buildings and research never died and never will. Every hour spent on them is un-lootable progress.
- Retrain modestly and at your best tier. Rebuilding the same enormous low-tier army recreates exactly the account that just got farmed. Fewer, higher-tier troops per the troop guide.
- Grow Hospital capacity before army size. Your losses were permanent because capacity overflowed. Fix the cause, not the symptom — Medic Stations first.
- Don't drop shield until you have a plan. Coming out unshielded with a half-rebuilt army into the same neighborhood is the definition of feeding.
Making Sure It Doesn't Happen Again
Zeroing is almost always the result of one of four fixable mistakes:
| What happened | The fix |
|---|---|
| Offline with troops home, no shield | Hide troops or shield before every logoff |
| Sat fat on resources | Spend down; keep surplus in unopened crates |
| Isolated outside alliance territory | Teleport into your alliance's cluster (territory guide) |
| Fought a kill event you couldn't win | Decide posture midweek, per the kill event guide |
There's also the strategic option people forget: relocating. If you're being farmed persistently by a stronger neighbor, teleporting away — into alliance territory, or out of a losing war entirely — is a legitimate and time-honored move, not a surrender. Keep an escape teleport stocked for exactly this.
The Long View
Ask anyone who's played this game for a year and they'll have been zeroed. It's a rite of passage in a genre built on non-consensual PvP, and the accounts that end up strong are simply the ones that treated it as a diagnostic rather than a disaster: they fixed the Hospital, learned the shield rhythm, moved into territory, and kept the permanent power compounding the entire time.
Your buildings are still standing. Your research never stopped. Go run the daily checklist and rebuild — this time as a target that doesn't pay.
