Quick Answer
- Zeus, Tifa, and Alexandria are the "Warfare Trinity" — the combat meta revolves around them.
- Zeus is the king of the meta: his Advanced Command passive boosts the attack of every unit type.
- Tifa is the strongest pure offensive officer; Alexandria is the best defensive anchor.
- For development, Doc Gray leads the Directors and Saki the Strategy officers — Doc Gray is the free-to-play favorite.
- Invest deep in a few meta officers rather than spreading resources across the whole roster.
How This List Works
Officer investment is expensive — skill books, medals, breakthrough materials, and equipment all funnel into whoever you commit to. Picking wrong costs months. This list ranks officers by long-term value across PvP, PvE, and account development, weighted toward choices that stay relevant as the meta evolves. If you're unsure how appointments and officer types work, read the officer types guide first.
S-Tier: The Warfare Trinity
Each of the trinity has a full individual guide — Zeus, Tifa, and Alexandria — covering skills, fragment days, and pairings in depth. The short case for each:
Zeus — the meta king
Zeus's signature passive, Advanced Command, is a universal attack boost that applies to every unit in the fight, across all three attack ranges. That universality is why he anchors virtually every serious march. Whatever your formation looks like, Zeus makes it hit harder.
Tifa — the executioner
Tifa is the strongest offensive officer in the game. Advanced Kill gives a flat attack boost, and her Death Bomber breakthrough opens fights with an instant strike that shreds enemy front lines before the exchange even settles. She also carries meaningful HP boosts, so she isn't a glass cannon. The 2026 meta in one line: kill in the first ten seconds or survive them — Tifa is the first half of that sentence.
Alexandria — the wall
Alexandria is the second half. She's the game's best defensive officer, built around global damage reduction, and her Unyielding breakthrough adds a chance-based toughness proc that frustrates burst lineups. Against Zeus/Tifa attackers, Alexandria is what keeps your army standing. Essential for city defense and defensive garrisons.
A-Tier: Strong Investments
Panda Jack — with a caveat
A Warfare officer built around crit, and genuinely divisive. Some rankings group him with the top damage dealers; others rate him B-tier and situational, useful mainly when you siege. The honest read: his crit-focused kit is high-variance, and community advice is to swap him out once his buff has fired. Treat him as a supplement to a finished trinity, not a substitute for one.
Major Morgan — a Strategy officer, not a Warfare one
Correction (August 2026): this guide previously repeated a claim that Morgan had been reworked into a Warfare officer with an attack-and-movement-speed kit. That is wrong. Morgan is a purple Strategy officer, and he always has been.
He pairs with Saki on the "War Strategy" line — fleet size, healing speed, fleet speed, and the wounded cap. That is a logistics kit, not a combat one, and it is strong: fleet size applies before every other multiplier, which is the same argument that puts Saki near the top of the Strategy list.
The bad claim traces to a single top-up-shop tier list that also calls Saki "the best Director in the game" and describes Doc Gray as giving a damage bonus on every attack. Both are flatly wrong. Where you read an officer's type, check who is telling you — misclassification is the most common error in Age of Origins content, and it changes what the officer is actually for.
Fragment day: Tuesday.
Development Officers: The Economy Backbone
These officers don't headline battle reports, but they decide how fast your account grows.
Saki
The top Strategy pick: bigger march sizes, faster recovery, and the First Aid breakthrough that converts deaths into wounded. Her launch-swap trick — appoint at march launch, then switch to combat officers — is covered in the full Saki guide.
Doc Gray
The free-to-play favorite: a research-speed passive that compounds enormously over the account's lifetime, plus the Emergency Medicine breakthrough that instant-heals a bursting hospital. If you're playing without spending, Doc Gray is your highest-value long-term project — the full Doc Gray guide covers why stars beat levels for him, and the research priorities guide maximizes the compounding.
A note on Cattie
Older tier lists file Cattie as a research-focused Director. Better-sourced material identifies her as a Drillmaster whose kit reduces enemy attack across troop categories — a PvP officer, not a development one, and therefore inactive against zombies and the weekly bosses. She's covered in the Drillmaster guide. If you see her recommended as a research booster, that guide is working from stale data.
Full Roster Reference
Age of Origins has roughly 44 officers across five types. Below is the full roster as far as it can be documented publicly, sorted by type — because type decides when an officer is active at all, which matters more than tier. A Drillmaster's buffs do nothing on a Friday boss run no matter how highly ranked they are.
Rarity runs green → blue → purple → gold/orange. Tier placements follow the current community consensus; where public documentation of an officer's actual kit is thin, this table says so rather than inventing one.

| Erica | Gold/orange | An orange Machinist; no public kit detail | Highly rated |
Machinist equipment exists as a separate system. Note that sources disagree on whether Machinist is genuinely a distinct type or a Drillmaster subtype — Emily's own release material calls her "the latest Drillmaster-type Officer — Emily, The Machinist." Check the type filter on your own officer screen.
How to use this table
Read the type before the tier. An S-tier Drillmaster contributes nothing against zombies, Mother of Doom, or Doom's Iron Grip, because Drillmaster inherent skills are PvP-only. An A-tier Director you can actually finish will do more for your account than an S-tier Warfare officer you cannot.
Fragment day decides what is realistic. The weekly rally-pack calendar constrains who you can finish far more than power rankings do. The newest officers — Freya, Kai, Emily, Erica — do not appear in the documented rotation at all and seem to arrive through packs and events instead.
Where this table says "undocumented", that is the honest state of public information, not a judgement on the officer. Green and blue officers in particular are poorly covered because almost nobody invests in them. If you are weighing one, the decision rules in this guide still apply: universal buffs beat narrow ones, and an officer you can finish beats one you cannot.
Investment Advice by Player Type
| Player type | Priority order |
|---|---|
| Free-to-play | Doc Gray → Saki → best available Warfare officer → Alexandria |
| Low spender | Zeus or Tifa (whichever you can finish) → Alexandria → Saki |
| Competitive/spender | Zeus + Tifa + Alexandria simultaneously, Saki and Doc Gray for development, Maria for PvP |
Beyond the core, two roster notes: Drillmaster officers (Maria above all) bring class-specific buffs that are enormous in PvP and literally inactive against zombies — see the Drillmaster guide — while Panda Jack (crit-oriented) and Kingsley (garrison-only) are the classic B-tier traps that soak fragments better spent on the trinity.
Two rules regardless of budget:
- Finish officers; don't sample them. A maxed A-tier officer beats three half-built S-tiers — and the same trio you finish is the trio to gear first in the officer equipment guide.
- Swap appointments before every activity. Building officer before building, research officer before research, combat officers before marching. It's free value most players leave on the table — see officer types explained.
The Rest of the Officer System
Ranking officers is only half the job. Three mechanics decide how much a given ranking is actually worth to your account:
| Topic | Why it changes your priority order |
|---|---|
| Officer swapping and the snapshot rule | Bonuses lock in when an action starts, so the same roster can capture buffs that look mutually exclusive. This changes what every officer above is worth to you. |
| How to get officers | The weekly fragment calendar decides who you can finish. A B-tier officer you can max this month outranks an S-tier you'll never complete. |
| Officer stars & 6-star Unworldly skills | Star level gates the skills that make the trinity worth the investment. An unstarred S-tier is a B-tier. |
| Intimacy: Lucy & Saya | A separate progression track most players ignore, with its own rewards and its own questions. |
Keeping This List Current
Balance patches and new officer releases shift the meta. This list was last verified on the date above; when a major update lands, check the officer's actual skill text in-game against the reasoning here — the logic (universal buffs > narrow buffs, burst vs. mitigation) outlasts individual rankings.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Who is the best officer in Age of Origins?
- Zeus. His Advanced Command passive boosts the Attack of every unit type in the march rather than one class, and that universality is what makes him the consensus top Warfare officer. Tifa and Alexandria complete the 'Warfare Trinity' around him — Tifa as the strongest pure offensive officer, Alexandria as the best defensive anchor.
- Which officers should a free-to-play player build first?
- Doc Gray, then Saki, then the best Warfare officer you can actually finish, then Alexandria. Doc Gray is the free-to-play favourite because his research speed compounds across every future tech, and Saki leads the Strategy officers for development.
- Is it better to build one officer or several?
- One at a time, to completion. A maxed A-tier officer beats three half-built S-tiers, because star levels gate the skills that make a top officer worth the investment in the first place. Spreading fragments across the roster is the most common way players waste a year of progress.
- Does the officer tier list change with patches?
- Yes. Balance patches and new officer releases move rankings. The reasoning behind the list — universal buffs beat narrow ones, and mitigation competes with burst — outlasts any individual ranking, so check an officer's actual in-game skill text against the logic here after a major update.
