Part of the Research series:

Quick Answer

  • Resource Technology covers resource output, gathering, and production nodes in the Academy.
  • Load and Engine are the two that pay. Load raises what a march carries home; Engine gets it there and back faster.
  • Gather and GPS are the traps. Community testing puts their effect on gather and zombie timers at a minuscule reduction — weeks of queue for almost nothing.
  • The branch is sized to your play: heavy world-map gatherers should take it seriously, resource-positive accounts should not.
  • It never goes before Development. Accelerators first, always.

What This Branch Actually Contains

Resource Technology is the Academy's economy tree — output multipliers on your production buildings, and the nodes that govern how your marches gather from world-map tiles. It sits third in the standard priority order, behind Development and Military, and unlike those two it is genuinely optional in depth.

That optionality is the thing to understand before you spend a week of queue here. Military research applies to every fight you will ever take. Development applies to every timer you will ever start. Resource research applies to the gathering rotation you actually run — so if you dispatch four marches a day, it compounds beautifully, and if you mostly live off event chests and the alliance store, it is a queue you could have spent on army size.

The Two Nodes Worth Your Queue

Load. How much each march brings home per trip. This is the single best line in the branch and it is not close, for the same reason army size leads Military research: capacity applies before every other multiplier. A percentage output bonus improves what a tile gives you. Load improves what every march you ever send is capable of carrying — and since march capacity also governs your gathering troop choice, the two decisions compound.

Engine. March speed. Less obviously valuable than Load and more valuable than it looks, because gathering income is a function of round trips, not just haul size. A march that gets to a tile faster starts working sooner, and one that returns faster is available to re-dispatch sooner. Over a year of daily rotations that is a large number of extra trips you were never going to notice individually.

Take Load as deep as your Academy allows, then Engine. Everything else in the branch is a distant third.

The Two Nodes That Waste Weeks

Gather and GPS look like the obvious gathering research — they are named for exactly what you are doing — and they are among the weakest uses of Academy time in the game. Community testing consistently finds they reduce gather and zombie timers by a minuscule amount, small enough that the research time spent taking them exceeds the time they will ever save you back.

This is the trap the branch sets. A player optimising their gathering rotation opens the Resource tree, sees a node called Gather, and queues it. Meanwhile Load — which would have raised every haul for the rest of the account's life — sits untaken two lines over.

Take Gather and GPS only where they gate something further down that you actually want. Never take them on purpose.

Node What it does Verdict
Load March carrying capacity Take it deep. Capacity applies before every other multiplier
Engine March speed Take it second. More round trips per day, permanently
Output multipliers Production building rates Modest. Fine as filler, never as a priority
Gather Gathering timer reduction Skip. Minuscule effect for real queue time
GPS Gather and zombie timer reduction Skip. Same problem

How Much of This Branch Do You Actually Need?

Ask what your resource bottleneck really is. Most growing accounts are limited by gathering throughput, and for them Load and Engine are excellent. But the bottleneck moves as an account matures:

  • Early game: your problem is march slots and army size, not gathering efficiency. Take Development, get Camps up, and leave this branch alone beyond convenience nodes.
  • Mid game: gathering is your main income stream and Load pays constantly. This is the window where the branch genuinely earns its place in the queue.
  • Late game: food becomes the chronic shortage for war-active accounts, healing bills dominate, and event chests plus alliance systems carry more of your supply. Resource research still helps, but Military is winning fights you cannot afford to lose.

The resource management guide makes the wider point that gathering is a habit problem before it is a research problem. An account with deep Load research and three idle march slots is beaten daily by an account with neither, dispatching properly.

Timing the Completions

Everything in the research discipline section applies here without modification, and two points matter especially:

  1. Appoint your research Director before starting. Doc Gray's speed passive snapshots when the timer begins, not when it ends.
  2. Land completions inside research-scoring phases. A Resource node finished during the Upgrade Buildings phase pays the research and the event points. The same node finished an hour early pays once.

Resource research is a long tail of small permanent gains. Taken selectively — Load, then Engine, then nothing you did not have to — it is a quiet multiplier on the income stream that funds your whole account. Taken exhaustively, it is the most expensive way in the game to shave a few seconds off a gather timer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Resource research worth it in Age of Origins?
Partly. The capacity and speed nodes — Load and Engine — pay real returns for anyone gathering seriously. The gathering-rate nodes shave so little time that they are effectively a queue you are wasting. Take the branch selectively, never completely.
Which Resource research should I do first in Age of Origins?
Load first, then Engine. Load raises how much each march brings home and Engine gets it there and back faster, so together they compound on every gathering trip you will ever run. Both beat any percentage output node in the branch.
Should I research Gather and GPS in Age of Origins?
No, or at least not deliberately. Community testing puts their effect on gather and zombie timers at a minuscule reduction, which makes them among the weakest uses of Academy time in the game. Take them only where they gate something you want.
Does Resource research beat Development research?
No. Development goes first for every account, because construction and research speed discount everything you will ever queue. Resource research is what you weave in afterward, sized to how much you actually gather.
