Age of Origins Migration: How to Change Nation (and the 48-Hour Window)
Moving to another nation in Age of Origins: the free early window, Elite Teleport costs, the two Territory Teleports you ever get, and the fresh-city workaround.
Part of the Progression series:
- Territory & Flags: Where you should be sitting once you arrive.
- Server Merger Guide: The other way your neighbourhood changes.
Quick Answer
- Moving nations is free only in a narrow early window: city below level 8, under 48 hours old, and under 2 million resources. Miss any one of those and the free option closes.
- After that you need an Elite Teleport — around 2,000 gold in the shop (cheaper via Black Market trade). It's consumed on use, but there's no lifetime limit.
- You lose nothing in a nation move: city, buildings, troops and progress all transfer intact.
- Territory Teleport moves you inside your alliance's land — and you only ever receive two in the entire game, so don't waste them.
- If your city is young and you're in the wrong nation, the community workaround is often to start fresh rather than pay 2,000 gold.
The Free Window Closes Fast
The single most common version of this question is "my friends are in another nation, how do I join them?" — and the honest answer depends entirely on how old your city is.
Free migration requires all three of these to be true:
- City below level 8
- City under 48 hours old
- Under 2 million resources stored
That's a genuinely tight window — two days. If you're reading this because you just started and picked the wrong nation, stop reading and go move now; the requirements will lapse while you deliberate.
After the Window: Elite Teleport
Past those thresholds, changing nations requires an Elite Teleport, priced around 2,000 gold in the shop (community sources report roughly 1,600 gold via Black Market trade, so check both). It's consumed on use, but there's no cap on how many you can use over your account's lifetime — people relocate repeatedly across a long career.
The reassuring part: a nation move costs you nothing but the item. Your city, buildings, research, troops and officers all come with you. Unlike a server merge, where cities get randomly redistributed, a voluntary move lands you where you choose.
The Three Teleport Items
| Item | What it does | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Elite Teleport | Move to any nation | ~2,000 gold; consumed |
| Territory Teleport | Move inside your alliance's territory, near the Alliance Hall | Placement limited to about 20 squares — and you only ever get two, ever: one at city creation, one the first time you join an alliance |
| Random Teleport | Relocates you randomly in your home or an enemy nation; also used in event maps | Applied to you for free and involuntarily when your wall durability hits zero |
That Territory Teleport scarcity is worth underlining, because new players burn one carelessly and then can't reposition when it matters. Two, in your entire account's life. Use the first to get inside your alliance's cluster (the territory guide explains why that's the single best defensive move available), and save the second for a genuine relocation — a merge, a war, or moving with your alliance.
The Fresh-City Workaround
Here's the advice veterans actually give someone whose city is a few days old and in the wrong nation: don't pay 2,000 gold. Unlink the young city from your account, create a new city in the correct nation, bind that one, and move on. A city that's four days old represents less value than the teleport costs.
That calculation flips fast, though. By the time you have real research, a developed officer core, and city levels behind you, the Elite Teleport is trivially worth it. The rough rule: if you'd be sad to lose the account, buy the teleport. Whichever route you take, make sure the account is properly bound first — the account binding guide covers that.
When Migrating Is the Right Play
Beyond joining friends, three legitimate reasons to move:
- You're being farmed persistently by a stronger neighbour and your alliance can't shelter you. Relocating out of a losing position is strategy, not surrender — see PvP basics.
- Your nation is dying. A server with too few active players stalls the uranium economy (which literally requires 30 level-30 cities nation-wide) and makes cross-nation events hollow. A merge may fix this for you — or you can move first.
- Your alliance moved. Follow them. The alliance is the actual content in this game, as the alliance guide keeps insisting.
And once you arrive: teleport into your alliance's territory cluster immediately, before you do anything else. Landing in a new nation as an isolated city outside anyone's protection is how a fresh start becomes a fresh farming target.
